Summer Chromebook Information

DO I GET TO TAKE MY CHROMEBOOK HOME FOR THE SUMMER?

Yes, UNLESS:

you have unpaid chromebook repair fines

  • you’ve had multiple damages to your chromebook during the school year

  • you are currently in check in/check out

  • you and/or your parent prefer not to take your chromebook home for the summer *

  • your chromebook needs to be repaired before next school year *

  • you might be moving to another school district over the summer ^

* Students who prefer not to take their chromebook home for the summer can turn it in at the HelpDesk in the Library before they leave for summer break. You can pick it up in August when you pay your chromebook insurance. If your chromebook needs to be repaired, please drop it off before you leave for break and fill out the summer damage paper.

^ If you already know you will not be attending school here next year, or if you think you might be moving over the summer, please turn in your chromebook, charger, and bag after your last class. If you end up not moving, we will give you back your chromebook when you pay your chromebook insurance in August.

If you leave the Webb City R7 School District without turning in your chromebook, we will report it as stolen to the local police department.

I DIDN’T KNOW I WAS MOVING THIS SUMMER. WHAT DO I DO WITH MY CHROMEBOOK?

If your family decides to move to a new district over the summer, please drop your Chromebook, bag, and charger off at the district’s Central Office Monday-Thursday between 9:00am and 2:00pm. Central Office is located directly south of Webb City High School at 411 N. Madison St. Webb City, MO 64870. Please make sure the chromebook charger is in the bag. Technology staff will evaluate the chromebook for damages/missing parts and will charge the student should any be found. Chromebook fees will have to be paid before your student’s transcript will be sent to their new school district. If you leave the Webb City R7 School District without turning in your chromebook, we will report it as stolen to the local police department and put a hold on your transcript.

I DON’T WANT TO TAKE MY CHROMEBOOK HOME THIS SUMMER  OR

MY CHROMEBOOK NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED

If you would like to leave your Chromebook at school over the summer instead of taking it home, feel free to drop it off at the Library after you finish your last Summative or Final. Please make sure your ID card is in the slot. You can pick up your chromebook in August once you pay your chromebook insurance or you can pick it up on the first day of school.

If you are dropping off your chromebook or bag because it is damaged, please be sure to fill out the summer repair paper so we know what to look at. Common issues are: missing keys, broken screen, missing/loose patch on bag, etc. Please note that if you drop off your chromebook in May for repairs, you will not get it back until August. We will try our best to get it repaired before school starts on August 16. However, this is not guaranteed. You will need to pay for any chargeable repairs when you pick up your chromebook. (see below for details about chromebook repair charges)

WHAT IF MY CHROMEBOOK BREAKS OVER THE SUMMER?

The tech department will not be accepting damaged chromebooks over the summer, so please take very good care of your device. If you do damage your Chromebook or if it becomes inoperable over the summer, please put it in a safe place for the rest of the summer and bring it with you when you pay your chromebook insurance on August 2. The date for Grades 10-12 Schedule Pickup, Locker Assignments, and 2017-18 Insurance Payments will be:

Wednesday, August 2nd

  • Seniors 8:30 am

  • Juniors 10:00 am

  • Sophomores 1:00 pm

You can drop off your chromebook with the tech department on August 2 and we will try our best to get it repaired before school starts on August 16. However, this is not guaranteed. You will need to pay for any chargeable repairs when you pick up your chromebook. If you want to pay for the repair ahead of time, please refer to the following list of charges so you know how much money to bring with you on August 2.

WILL MY CHROMEBOOK BE MONITORED OVER THE SUMMER?

Yes, your Chromebook WILL be monitored over the summer. If any flagged activity in violation of the High School Student Acceptable Use Policy is detected, you will be put into restricted access or your account will be disabled, depending on the severity of the violation. Your account will not be taken out of restricted access/re-enabled until a conversation happens with one of the Principals when you return to school in August.

SUMMER DOS AND DON'TS:

  • Please don’t leave your chromebook in a vehicle, even while at home. Theft from vehicles is a very real problem.

  • If your Chromebook is lost or stolen over the summer, you must file a police report and inform the tech department at 673-6010 ext. 286. Please refer to the Acceptable Use Policy for information about what to do if a chromebook is lost or stolen.

  • Keep your chromebook in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight.

  • Do not leave your Chromebook in a hot car or outside in the heat, sun, or rain.

  • If a key pops off, don't pick off the rubber nub that's underneath the key and make sure you don’t bend the metal brackets, either. We can replace the key as long as the rubber nub and metal brackets are not damaged.

  • Remember that your chromebook and bag are school property and should not be misused or abused in any way. Having these devices to use year-round is a privilege so please respect that and take good care of your device.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN SCHOOL STARTS IN AUGUST:

CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE / AUP COLLECTION AND FRESHMAN CHROMEBOOK ROLL-OUT:

We will be taking 2017-18 chromebook insurance payments for Grades 10-12 on Wednesday, August 2 during schedule pickup/locker assignments. We will be set up in the commons area by the main office. Freshman chromebook roll-out will be held in the library on Wednesday, August 9 during freshman schedule pickup/locker assignments. We will also be accepting AUP/insurance payments during Open House on Monday, August 14. New students can turn in their AUP and Insurance at any time, but they will not receive a chromebook until after school starts on August 16.

LAST YEAR, MY ACCOUNT WAS DISABLED IN AUGUST. WILL IT BE DISABLED AGAIN THIS YEAR?

No, we will not be disabling student accounts before school starts this year. Instead, we expect you to turn in your signed AUP and pay your chromebook insurance no later than Wednesday, September 13. On that date, any student who has not turned in their signed 2017-18 AUP and/or has not paid the $25 insurance for the 2017-18 school year will have their account disabled until the issue is resolved.

CURRENT CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT STUDENTS:

Your Chromebook will be available for you to check out on the first day of school, but you will need to turn in your 2017-18 AUP (signed by a parent/guardian) no later than Wednesday, September 13 or your account will be disabled until you turn it in. You can bring your signed AUP to one of the insurance collection days or you can bring it to the HelpDesk when school starts.

2017-18 AUP AND INSURANCE

Please print out the first page of the ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY & INSURANCE, fill it out and have both you and a parent/guardian sign it, and bring it with you with the $25 cash/check on your AUP/Insurance Collection day in August. Copies of the 2017-18 AUP will be available starting July 25 in the front office. If paying by check, please make it out to Webb City High School.

Please make sure:

  • your parent/guardian has signed your AUP.

  • your parent/guardian has given permission for you to use the school's technology. (includes chromebooks, desktop computers, iPads, etc.)

  • you have the $25 insurance money with you if you plan to take your chromebook home during the school year. (cash or check only, please)

All enrolled students must turn in a signed AUP each year.

Last year’s AUP will not work for the 2017-18 school year past September 12, 2017.
